About this prototype

An unofficial prototype by NovaHawk Labs, built from public data to show what a searchable, shareable view of New Hampshire's water infrastructure funding could look like. It is not an NHDES website.

What it covers

159 projects approved through the American Rescue Plan Act era, taken from NHDES's two public ArcGIS story maps. That is roughly 40% of the ~400 projects funded since 2021 across ARPA, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the Drinking Water and Clean Water State Revolving Funds. A full version would load NHDES's complete project list and could add up to 35 years of historic projects.

Sources

Projects, narratives, funding amounts and photos: NH Department of Environmental Services public story maps.
Town, county, House, floterial, Senate and Executive Council boundaries, and 2020 population: NH GRANIT, the state's GIS clearinghouse at UNH. Every project is matched to these boundaries by its location.

What loading the data turned up

Nothing in the source records was changed silently. Every correction keeps the original value, and anything ambiguous is flagged for NHDES rather than guessed at.

Several spellings of the same funding program, including typos, mapped to one program each.
2 malformed amounts corrected, where a figure had a stray digit and the same record's narrative gave the right number:
- Plymouth Village Water & Sewer District
- Town of Durham
8 records flagged, not changed, where headline figures and the record's own narrative disagree:

The target is WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Maps are never the only way to reach information: every map has an equivalent table, every chart is a real data table, and every control is a standard form element that works by keyboard. Color contrast is computed, not eyeballed.

This is a prototype. A full manual audit with screen readers, and an Accessibility Conformance Report, are part of the production build. Problems can be reported to NovaHawk Labs.
